ICS Community Webcast - Thank You

This week, I had the privilege of delivering a presentation with Abby Butts of Hendricks Regional Health during the April IBM ICS Community Webcast (catch the replay here). The topic was XPages, so we did a quick tour through some of the application efforts we've done at HRH - defining the business problems presented to us, and the resulting solutions that we delivered. As application developers, that's what we do: solve business problems. In our case, it's about delivering the right information to the right people at the right time, and allowing healthcare professions to be just that (instead of keyboard jockeys).

Apparently we struck a chord with many people, as the feedback we've received has been very surprising (and humbling). For all of those who have shared their congratulations and kind words, I sincerely thank you.

What's been the most interesting to me is how much of a "wow" it's created for so many, because I don't really see it as that.  I see the work that we do as simply leveraging the tools and architecture that are already in place and available. We showed only the XPages portion of just a handful of applications that are in place at Hendricks. There's much, much more going on than just what we presented.

It fascinates me that so much of the Notes/Domino user base still doesn't fully understand all of the capabilities their software investments provide. I've seen this for years, working with other clients, that they simply don't realize all of the functionality the platform allows. In some cases, it can truly be likened to buying a Ferrari and using it only to go to the mailbox - never really squeezing the value out of that huge investment. The toolbox is so vast, it seems such a waste.

I'm glad we had the opportunity to show real-world cases of how these tools can save time, save money, make money and even improve the quality of healthcare for people. It's a rewarding job, and I'm glad to be a part of it. I hope what we presented inspires others in ways that will provide the same level of reward and satisfaction.
